MATOKE AND MULTI GRAIN SNACK

This snack is something I love preparing for my kids when they crave for some snacks on a cold evening. This snack goes well with a cup of tea. Crunchiness of the grains and crispy nature of matoke makes it a SUPER SNACK and a great hit amongst kids.

INGREDIENTS:

Green peas- 1cup(dry or fresh)

Peanuts- 1 cup(dry)

Bengal gram(split)- 1cup (dry)

Matoke(Green bananas)- 2 cups(thin slices)

Chilly powder- 1 tspn ( you can add more or less according to your choice)

Turmeric powder- 1 tspn

Curry leaves- 2 sprigs(optional)

Salt to taste

Oil- 6 cups(to fry)

METHOD:

1. Soak the Bengal gram and peas overnight if you are using the dry ones.

2.Slice the matoke into thin slices and keep it ready.

3. Drain the soaked grains with a colander. Make sure there is no water left in the grains.

4. Heat the oil  and make sure it is hot enough to fry. Fry the grains one by one until they turn crispy enough.

5. Fry the matoke slices until golden brown and add it to the lentils. Make sure you add all the fried grains and matoke to an open container to avoid heat building up in between the grains and making  them moist.

6.  Add the spices, salt and mix  with a spoon. Make sure the salt and spices are uniformly spread all over.

7. Make sure the snack is cool enough before you store it in a container to avoid the snack from losing its crunchy nature.

8. Serve with hot cup of chai and relish!
